Beach & Backwater Cycling in Kerala

Day 1: Kochi
Arrival at Kochi (www.cial.aero). Meet & assist at the airport and transfer to Fort Kochi. Loacted on the outlet of a superb inland waterway to the Ocean, the port city of Cochin has been an important maritime entrepot trading with the Arabian and Mediterranean regions on the one hand and China & South East Asia on the other. The wealth of its trade has attracted a heterogeneous mix of peoples. Christians came here in the 2nd century, Jews and Muslims followed - all to trade, settle and inter-marry until the arrival of the Portuguese, Dutch and English. All have left their mark on this bustling city known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea" and trading still in tea, coffee, rubber, cardamom and pepper. You can certainly take a short walk down the Fort Cochin area if you don’t wish to spend the entire afternoon in your hotel.
Day 2: Marari Beach
After an early breakfast, we will commence our cycling for the day. Leaving the busy roads of Fort Cochin, we will hit the beach road that will take us to our destination for the day, a beautiful beach villa. Today's ride will take us along the fishing villages and coconut plantations on one side and the sea on the other. We will reach in time for lunch at the villa. Wind down by spending the afternoon on the beach.
Day 3: Alleppey
After a relaxed breakfast, we head to Alleppey, known for its serene backwaters. The route passes through country roads and small villages where we will see coconut husk being processed and made into coir ropes and mats. We hit the backwaters and cycle along the waters till reach a backwater home stay. After the evening tea, take a walk through the paddy fields and meet the local people or take a ride to the nearby village market.
Day 4: Alleppey | Houseboat
Cycle to Chambakulam and embark the rice boat for a memorable journey through the backwaters. Watch the village life along the backwaters as the villagers begin their day. The rice boat will take you through the tranquil backwaters giving you a closer view of village life that is centered on these backwaters. Canoes with huge sails still transport people and you will find vegetable sellers, fishermen and other household materials being brought door to door by small wooden boats.
Day 5: Kumarakom
We leave the backwater villa and cycle along the paddy fields and coconut groves till we reach the famous Thanneermukkam Bundu. After a short break we head to Kumarakom, the small village on the Eastern side of the large Kumarakom Lagoon. That is the end of the cycling along the Kerala beaches and backwaters!
Day 6: Depart
