Kerala Trekking Holiday

Day1: Munnar
The first day of your Kerala Trekking Holiday at Munnar contains a challenging trek to Meesapulimala. The trek would start very early in the morning. Meesapulimala is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats, at an elevation of 2640 metres. Your trekking route will be the typical terrain of this region, part high altitude rainforest (Shola forests) and part grasslands. There is also a large variety of wildlife that you may spot on your way to Meesapulimala. At Meesapulimala, you can rest your eyes on a beautiful landscape of deep green forests and tea estates. You can even see the world’s highest tea estate from this point, the Kolukkumalai tea estate. This is a full day trek.
Day2: Suryanelli
On this second day of this Kerala Trekking Holiday, you will be transfered to Suryanelli after an early morning breakfast for the Phantom’s Head trek. It will be an ever remembered walk, the tallest feature nearby from where you can take in the spectacular sunrise over the Papathy Shola (Butterfly Forest – so named for the mass migration of butterflies in October & November). The hills come alive to the morning sun. Today you also have a chance to visit the tribal village of the muduvans – a tribe who have for centuries colonized the upper reaches of the Western Ghats. Their peculiar habit of carrying their children on their backs has earned them their name as muduvans or the ‘back people’. The tribal village located near the Anaerangal lake (“The lake Where the Elephants Come Down”) where elephants have come down for millennium for grazing and water. Snaking across a large area, this lake is placid and beautiful and a source of water for farmers downstream. Many tribal colonies have sprung up around it to farm for spices and cardamom which grow abundantly in the salubrious climate here.
Day3: Depart
This day marks the end of your Kerala Trekking Holiday and your exciting days of the trekking and camping at Munnar.

Holiday Feedback

I would like to let you know that our trek was great, Kalypso's organisation was excellent and our guide couldn't have been better. He was a young guy of 22 called Anoop who knew loads about the local flora and fauna and was generally very well informed, on top of which had a great sense of humour.Harriet 2015-01-08

All three days were such a difference in nature, every day was special and showed us a different side of the beautiful area we were in. Roger did a wonderful job leading us those days, he was patient, motivating and interesting to talk to. The organisation was perfect, everything on time, great food and very clean and pleasant camping sides. Julia Duttmann 2017-01-10

We are back from our trip and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how much we appreciated the excellent tour you put together. It was just perfect. And Anup and Das were some of the best guides we have ever had. They were so friendly, yet professional and they really were the highlight of our entire India trip. Thanks again and I hope to use Kalypso Adventures again when we get back to India Eric Pfieffer 2024-03-02
